Programs and events

Program Area I: Educational Programs & Teaching Artist Residencies

Very Special Arts California brings education in and through the Arts to pre-kindergarten through 12th grade students and teachers in schools and community settings. Programs include teaching-artists in the classrooms, transition-to-work training through the Arts, plus direct teacher training on utilization of the Arts in the classroom. These programs involve school district, County Office of Education, family and/or community partnerships.

Program Area II: Professional Development and Technical Assistance

Program Area II includes intensive training programs offering activities to train teachers, artists, and/or arts program staff on how to provide inclusive arts learning activities and programming. Additionally, programs may provide technical assistance to arts, disability, and education professionals and organizations to help increase accessibility and inclusive programming (i.e. a one-time/one-day training, one-on-one consultation, information/resources, etc.).

Program Area III: Cultural Access and Inclusive Arts Services

Program Area III includes physical and programmatic access services, which may include accessibility site surveys of cultural organizations, audio description or ASL interpretation programs for arts performance, ticket distribution programs or other access initiatives.

Program Area IV: Public Awareness and Outreach

Program Area IV includes arts presentations for the consumption of the wider community. For example, galleries, festivals, exhibits, performances, participatory arts experiences, etc. Public awareness activities may include newsletters, community presentations/speeches, website, etc.
