2007 VSA Arts International Young Soloists Award Recipients Announced

Washington, February 16, 2007 — VSA arts is proud to announce the recipients of the 2007 VSA arts International Young Soloists Award. This year's recipients are:

Melody Gardot, a 23-year-old award-winning singer/songwriter who draws comparisons to Cole Porter, Billie Holliday and Nina Simone burst on the scene in 2006 with her debut album, Worrisome Heart.

Niv Ashkenazi, a seventeen-year-old violin prodigy and concertmaster of the California State University-Northridge Youth Philharmonic.

Yew Choong Cheong, originally from Kuala Lampur, Malaysia is an up-and-coming classical pianist and Ph.D. candidate in piano performance from West Virginia University.

Makabara, a vocal trio from the Jan Deyl Conservatory in Prague who interpret traditional and contemporary Czech music.

Each recipient will receive $5,000 and will perform in concert in the Terrace Theater of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts on March 21, 2007 at 7:30pm.
